TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's leading scooter manufacturer Kwang Yang Motor Co. (KYMCO, 光陽) appointed Ko Chun-ping (柯俊斌) as its new chairman on Wednesday (April 16), following a contentious boardroom vote that revealed deep internal divisions. Ko secured majority support from executive board members despite opposition from outgoing chairman Allen Ko (柯勝峯), who had publicly called for Ko Chun-ping to step aside in favor of professional management.

In his first statement as chairman, Ko Chun-ping pledged to maintain KYMCO's reputation for high-quality products while delivering stable returns to investors. He stressed his plan to work alongside professional managers to ensure long-term growth and sustainability. The new chairman's approach appears strategically focused on strengthening market position and operational efficiency across the company's global operations.

Meanwhile, former chairman Allen Ko will transition to an executive director role overseeing global product planning and strategic initiatives. In a notable acknowledgment of the company's evolution, he emphasized how three major family shareholders have collaboratively transformed the six-decade-old KYMCO from traditional family management to professional corporate governance, ending a 60-year legacy of family-centric leadership. ★
