TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China Airlines (中華航空), Taiwan's flagship carrier, unveiled a gastronomic partnership on Wednesday (March 26) that will elevate the in-flight dining experience for travelers across Asia. The airline has joined forces with Moon Moon Food (雙月食品社), a celebrated Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant renowned for its authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Beginning next month, passengers on specific regional routes will savor meticulously crafted dishes that showcase Taiwan's rich culinary traditions. This strategic collaboration represents a significant step in the airline's ongoing efforts to distinguish its service offerings while promoting Taiwan's distinctive food culture to international travelers.
At a media preview held that day, Jenny Tsao (曹志芬), director of product marketing at China Airlines, and Lai Yung-sheng (賴永晟), president of Moon Moon Food, presented an impressive array of their jointly developed in-flight cuisine. Journalists and industry representatives sampled the carefully adapted dishes that maintain the restaurant's signature flavors while meeting the unique challenges of high-altitude dining. Tsao articulated the airline's commitment to cultural diplomacy through food, emphasizing how this collaboration would introduce Taiwan's culinary excellence to international travelers. She highlighted their mutual dedication to preserving authenticity while ensuring the meals meet the exacting standards expected in premium cabin service.
Lai conveyed palpable enthusiasm about bringing his restaurant's beloved recipes to the skies, describing the partnership as both a privilege and a creative challenge. The restaurant president detailed the meticulous process his team undertook to overcome the technical hurdles inherent in aviation catering, particularly the complex task of preserving the ideal texture of noodles after they undergo the necessary reheating process at 35,000 feet. This attention to detail reflects the commitment to maintaining Moon Moon Food's reputation for excellence even in the challenging environment of in-flight service.
The enhanced dining program will launch on April 1, initially available exclusively to business class travelers departing from Taiwan's three major international gateways: Taoyuan, Songshan, and Kaohsiung airports. Passengers journeying to key Asian destinations including Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore will be the first to experience these culinary creations that blend traditional Taiwanese flavors with modern presentation techniques. The carefully selected routes represent some of the airline's most competitive corridors, where elevated service offerings can significantly impact passenger preference and loyalty in the increasingly competitive regional aviation market.
