TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Executive Yuan (行政院) confirmed on Thursday (March 6) that former Minister of Transportation Li Meng-yen (李孟諺) has rejoined the government as a paid adviser. Li resigned last year from his ministerial role following a scandal involving an extramarital affair, having served only 92 days in the position.

Li's extensive career in public service includes roles under President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) when he served as Tainan's mayor. Li initially worked as the director of the Tainan City Water Resources Bureau (台南市水利局), later advancing to the position of Tainan City Secretary-General. He also served as acting mayor of Tainan and Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan until he took over as Minister of Transportation and Communications on May 20, 2024.

The Executive Yuan highlighted Li's qualifications and his rich grassroots experience, citing that under the "Public Functionaries Appointment Act" (公務人員任用法), he is eligible for public service appointments. Li's background includes passing the "Civil Service Special Examination for Technical Personnel" (務人員特種考試技術人員), specializing in civil engineering, and holding various government positions with expertise in engineering and water resources.

As Li resumes his advisory role, observers will be keen to see how his contributions influence upcoming projects and policies.
