TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je's (柯文哲) wife, Chen Pei-chi (陳佩琪) plans to submit an official application for a home visit Friday (March 7), following a meeting with Ko. This move comes as the former chairman seeks permission to attend his father's funeral, which is scheduled for March 10.
According to Article 5 of the "Regulations for Home Visits by Prisoners and Defendants" (受刑人及被告返家探視辦法), in the event of the death of the parents of the inmates, inmates are allowed to return home to visit the family, but the application shall be made after the date of death or two days prior to the burial of the inmate's parent/parents.
Authorities detained Ko for over two months due to his alleged involvement in the Core Pacific City (京華城) case and a political donation scandal. A court temporarily lifted his visitation ban on Feb. 27, allowing family members, including his mother Ho Jui-ying (何瑞英), his sister Ko Mei-lan (柯美蘭), to visit him until March 10.
Ko's father, Ko Cheng-fa (柯承發), passed away on Feb. 17, and the Taipei Detention Center has remained silent on whether Ko can attend the funeral. Ko, through his lawyer, has expressed a strong desire to leave the detention center for his father's farewell. With the funeral approaching, the decision on Ko's attendance remains uncertain.
