TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung (高雄) Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) confirmed on Thursday (March 6) that TSMC will continue its investment in Kaohsiung as planned, despite the company's recent announcement of a major future investment in the U.S.
Chen reassured the public that TSMC's plans in Kaohsiung remain on track, following the recent approval of environmental assessments for the P4 and P5 facilities. The P1 facility is set to begin operations this year, P2 is scheduled for next year, and construction for P3 is already underway.
He emphasized that TSMC's advanced manufacturing investment in Kaohsiung will seamlessly integrate with the Executive Yuan's Southern Taiwan Semiconductor Corridor project, strengthening the region's semiconductor industry cluster.
Mayor Chen highlighted the growing industry cluster in the corridor, noting that major equipment suppliers like Entegris from the U.S. and Merck from Germany have already established a presence in Kaohsiung.
