TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation (臺北農產運銷公司) announced on Wednesday (March 5) that it will export 18 tons of Taiwanese hard cabbage (EMORU, 台灣硬種甘藍) to Japan. The shipment, set to depart from Kaohsiung Port on Thursday, will reach its destination on Friday. This addresses a significant demand due to Japan's recent climate-induced cabbage shortage.
Japan's cabbage production, particularly in Aichi Prefecture, saw a 30% decrease last year, attributed to extreme weather conditions. In contrast, Taiwan experienced lower temperatures this spring and winter, which was favorable for cabbage growth and led to a 20% increase in overall yield compared to previous years. This situation presents an opportunity for Taiwanese exporters to meet international demand.
The company highlighted that the export consists of 1,000 boxes of EMORU cabbage, each weighing 18 kilograms, totaling 18 tons. Customs inspections concluded successfully yesterday, with Taiwan Customs granting clearance. The corporation emphasized its efforts to explore international markets, catering to the needs of new dining establishments in Japan.
The company aims to find export avenues for Taiwan's fruits and vegetables by leveraging trade development insights and understanding international customer demand.
