TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Civil Aviation Administration (CAA, 民航局) announced on Wednesday (March 5) the successful signing of the Air Transportation Services Agreement (空運服務協定) between Taiwan and Italy, promising to boost flight frequencies between the two countries.
CAA Director General Ho Shu-ping (何淑萍) and Pierluigi Umberto Di Palma, chairman of Italy's Civil Aviation Authority, finalized the agreement, increasing weekly passenger flights from seven to 19.
The agreement introduced Venice as a new destination and expanded cargo capacity with three weekly flights, including two with fifth freedom rights. China Airlines (中華航空公司) currently operates three weekly passenger flights to Rome, while EVA Air (長榮航空公司) serves Milan with four flights weekly. These routes achieved an average load factor of 81% in 2024.
In 2024, more than 70,000 people traveled between Taiwan and Italy, marking a growth of over 20% compared to 2023. The collaboration between the aviation authorities of both countries will help airlines adjust flight offerings based on market demand, enhancing travel convenience.
