TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) minister emphasized a cautious approach to legal revisions on the government's alleged move to consider stricter regulations on residency and relocation between Taiwan and Hong Kong or Macau amid rapidly changing regional dynamics.

Speaking at parliamentary session at the Legislative Yuan, Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) pointed out that the MAC would also respect suggestions from scholars and legislators, and would deliberate on amending the "Regulations Governing Residency and Settlement Permits in Taiwan" (台灣居留定居許可辦法). The council will carefully review existing laws and gather opinions from various sectors before implementing any changes, aiming to ensure national security and promote healthy exchanges between Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, according to the minister.

Addressing inquiries about whether Taiwanese travel to Hong Kong and Macau falls under the "Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area" (兩岸條例), Chiu reiterated the council's commitment to thorough legal examination. He highlighted that the MAC respects scholarly and legislative recommendations and will continue to explore legal frameworks.
