TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The manager of the late Hong Kong–based American singer-songwriter Khalil Fong's (方大同) confirmed on Monday (March 3) that his last album, "The Dreamer" (夢想家), has been submitted for the 2025 Golden Melody Awards, and his management is pushing for a Special Contribution Award in his honor.
Fong passed away on Feb. 21 at 41 due to health problems, leaving fans and the music industry in shock. Fans and the music community continue to honor Fong through his music, with classics like "This Love" (愛愛愛) and "Love Song" climbing streaming platforms. Fong's manager told China Times (中時新聞網) that although "The Dreamer" was only physically released in China, it has been entered into the current Golden Melody Awards.
Taiwan's Ministry of Culture's (文化部) guidelines for the 36th Golden Melody Awards state that nominees for the Special Contribution Award must hold a Republic of China ID or be a registered entity in Taiwan. Fong, an American citizen, does not qualify personally. However, his record label, Fu Music (賦音樂), established in Taiwan, could potentially compete for the award.
A frequent nominee in the Golden Melody Awards, Fong has been recognized six times for Best Mandarin Male Singer, highlighting his impact on Chinese music. His manager expressed on social media that Fong "never sought fame or fortune, never competed with others, and always loved music purely." The manager hopes "The Dreamer" will receive recognition at the awards.
