TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An executive from Goodway Machine Corp. (程泰集團) announced on Monday (March 3) plans to expand its manufacturing operations in the U.S. later this year if President Donald Trump raises reciprocal tariffs above 20%. Goodway Machine CEO Yang De-hua (楊德華) announced at the Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) that the company will increase its presence at its Ontario, California, facility.
Yang emphasized that Goodway Machine has acquired land in Ontario, Calif., and has nearly 60 North American distributors. Yang stated that If Trump raises tariffs above 20%, Goodway will expand its U.S. facilities to promote American manufacturing. Yang also discussed the challenges facing Taiwan's machine tool industry, citing competition from Japan and Germany. He believes Taiwanese manufacturers must upgrade, innovate, and offer unique technologies to stay competitive.
Goodway Machine plans to implement a strategy of affordable luxury in machine tools, aiming to enhance its market position. Yang predicted that the machine tool industry's outlook will become more apparent after the second quarter. As Goodway Machine positions itself for potential expansion, the company underscores the importance of strategic adaptation in a shifting global trade landscape.
