TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS 2025, 台北工具機展) opened on Monday (March 3), showcasing groundbreaking innovations in the manufacturing industry.
Taiwan Mask Corporation (台灣光罩) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI, 工業技術研究院) unveiled a pioneering H-beam laser welding technology, addressing steel structure supply shortages in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC, 台積電) expansion plans.
Chang Neng-kai (張能凱) from the Ministry of Economic Affairs Department of Industrial Technology (經濟部產業技術司) noted that this technology breaks through 50 years of tradition by employing AI and robotic arms to enhance welding quality and efficiency. This innovation promises an 80% reduction in carbon emissions, setting a new standard in sustainable manufacturing.
Lai Li-wen (賴豊文), a manager at Taiwan Mask, revealed that semiconductor giants have already adopted the technology, with a monthly production capacity of around 1,000 tons. The company plans to build additional production lines to boost capacity, signaling a strong commitment to meeting industry demands.
Running for six days at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (南港展覽館) and the Taipei World Trade Center (台北世貿), TIMTOS 2025 features over 1,000 exhibitors. The event focuses on AI, smart manufacturing, and sustainable energy, opening business opportunities across five major application fields.
