TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In Taiwan's fast-paced tech industry, a generational shift is reshaping the job market, with Generation Z potentially replacing mid-career professionals in their 40s.
Tseng Chung-wei (曾仲葳), a spokesperson for a job bank, explains that a survey of Taiwan's tech parks shows only slightly more than 20% of employees are aged 45 and older, while those under 35 dominate the workforce.
The tech sector favors younger talents for their innovation, adaptability to new technologies, and freedom from conventional constraints, enabling swift action. Janice Tsai (蔡宜蒨), a marketing manager for a global talent platform, highlights Gen Z's strengths in innovation, flexibility, and AI skills, urging seasoned workers to embrace learning to maintain competitiveness.
Tseng also notes that frequent layoffs in the tech industry often target those over 40 who have not advanced to management roles. Schools have equipped Gen Z with AI coursework, making them job-ready upon graduation and enhancing their appeal as ideal candidates in the tech sector.
