TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Taiwan University (NTU, 台灣大學) presidents removed the president of the Student Association of the College of Social Sciences National Taiwan University (NTUSSSA, 台大社科院學生會) from the office on Tuesday (Feb.18). The ousted president, Kuo Yu-jui (郭又睿) responded on Wednesday (Feb.19) that he was no surprise for the result.
Kuo mentioned that the procedure existed flaws in the recall process, including conversations between recall initiators and students waiting to vote. Also, he urged for a return for rational discussion in campus democracy should be returned, highlighting partisan involvement during the protests against the delegation's visit.
Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑), the CEO of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, expressed his disappointment on Wednesday (Feb. 19) that promoting cross-strait exchanges has become a reason for the recall. Hsiao criticized that young people in Taiwan are busy using recall tactics to suppress dissent. He suggested that these young people may have learned from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) by mistakenly equating recall with justice.
NTU stated it would not comment on student government issues.
NTU's students cited Kuo's involvement in hosting a delegation as the reason, and removed him from the office of NTUSSSA on Tuesday (Feb. 18).
