TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS, 行政院主計總處) announced on Monday (Feb. 17) that in December 2024, Taiwan's average monthly total earnings exceeded NT$60,000 for the first time, reaching NT$60,984. The 4.39% annual increase marked the largest rise in 14 years, reflecting a robust economic performance in 2024.
DGBAS date revealed Taiwan saw its real average monthly total earnings rise by 2.16% to NT$56,566, the highest growth in six years. In addition, the real average earnings also increased by 0.58% to NT$43,085, the highest since 2021. The financial and insurance sector topped the industry rankings with an average monthly salary of NT$107,348, growing 9.27% annually. The median monthly regular earnings also rose by 3.29% to NT$37,274, the highest in five years.
Electronic components manufacturing followed with an average monthly total earnings of NT$102,150, up 7.88%. Meanwhile, electricity and gas supply ranked third at NT$96,669, with a modest increase of 0.08%.
Transportation and storage saw a 5.4% rise in average monthly total earnings to NT$65,305, benefiting from a surge in overseas travel interest. Wholesale trade experienced a 6.73% increase to NT$57,472, driven by strong manufacturing exports, Tan Wen-ling (譚文玲), deputy director of the agency's Census Department said. However, sectors like water supply and marine transportation faced declines of 0.3% and 1.52%, respectively, due to retirements and the fading of pandemic-related benefits.
