TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front has gripped Taiwan, dropping temperatures in Miaoli to a record low of 6.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (Feb. 5).
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted that the morning brought dry and cold conditions, with some areas experiencing temperatures below 10°C and sporadic rain in mountainous and eastern regions.
Wu expects the cold wave to weaken from Thursday to Friday morning, leading to warmer temperatures and mostly cloudy skies in the island's western half. However, he warned that another cold air would arrive Friday afternoon, causing a sharp temperature drop from Saturday through Monday morning.
Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) predicted that the strongest cold spell of the year will bring a drastic temperature decline from Friday to Monday. Lin stated that Saturday and Sunday will be the coldest days, with northern and northeastern regions seeing 7 to 9°C lows, central areas 8 to 11°C, and southern regions 10 to 15°C.
