The Tainan Fire Bureau reported the injuries as minor, with those affected receiving hospital care.
The Central News Agency (CNA) reported that emergency services received a call about house collapses on Minzu Road at 12:19 a.m. Fire officials said more than 10 single-story houses collapsed or partially collapsed, trapping residents inside. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to save those affected and ensure their safety.
An elderly woman in her 80s, a lifelong resident of Nanxi, told local media of her harrowing experience, stressing that she barely escaped to safety. Her story highlights the sudden and destructive nature of the quake, which left many in the community shaken.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) visited the affected area in the early hours on Tuesday. He pledged to provide warm clothing, hot meals, and other assistance to the residents. His commitment underscores the city's efforts to support those impacted by the disaster and help them recover.
