TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chen Binhua (陳斌華), spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO, 中國大陸國台辦), acknowledged on Wednesday (Jan. 15) the outpouring of support from Taiwan's citizens and organizations after a devastating earthquake struck Tibet (西藏).
On Jan. 7, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Tingri County (定日縣) in Tibet, causing significant casualties. By Jan. 10, donations from Taiwanese businesses, including Foxconn (富士康), Want Want (旺旺), Ting Hsin (頂新), and Uni-President (統一), surpassed 32 million yuan, the TAO said.
Chen noted contributions from Taiwanese groups, institutions, and entertainers also provided aid to the disaster-stricken area. He emphasized that the relief efforts demonstrated the shared bond between the two sides, stating, "Blood runs thicker than water, and we watch over each other" (血濃於水、守望相助的同胞之情).
China expressed gratitude for the support from Taiwanese groups and individuals, highlighting the assistance from numerous Taiwanese businesses.
