TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Bank (中央銀行) launched a new currency exchange service at 456 locations across Taiwan on Monday (Jan. 20). The service, available until Friday, allows citizens to exchange old bills for new ones, with a limit of on hundred NT$100 bills per person.

Seven banks, including Bank of Taiwan (臺灣銀行) and Taiwan Cooperative Bank (合作金庫商業銀行), will operate exchange counters at 373 branches. Additionally, 24 urban post offices and 59 rural post offices will handle exchanges at regular counters. The Central Bank advises citizens to visit nearby locations if their preferred branch runs out of new bills due to limited daily supplies.

The Central Bank has made it easier for the public to locate exchange points by providing a detailed list on its website, Facebook page, and mobile app. These resources include Google Maps links and QR codes for easy access. Aiming to meet public demand while promoting sustainability, the bank also encourages digital alternatives to traditional red envelopes, suggesting mobile transactions to convey well wishes.

Bank of Taiwan Chairman Joanne Ling (凌忠嫄) noted that the demand for new bills remains high despite the push for digital red envelopes. The bank exchanged a total of NT$54.7 billion worth of bills last year, and it is prepared for this year as new bills are available all day long at ATMs.
