TAIPEI (TVBS News)—The chairwoman of Sogo Department Store announced on Thursday (Jan. 16) that SOGO Dunhua Store, a staple in Taipei's East District for 30 years, will close in late December 2025 when its lease expires. Luxury brands housed in the iconic building will move to nearby SOGO locations, including Garden City (大巨蛋) and Fuxing Store.
Sophia Huang (黃晴雯) highlighted that Garden City's A Zone cinema will debut in the second quarter of this year, with a rooftop restaurant and retail space on the ground floor. The B Zone department store, spanning from B2 to the eighth floor, will open in the fourth quarter of 2025, offering views of Taipei 101 and hosting upscale dining options.
Huang expressed optimism about the retail outlook, despite last year's challenges. She set a revenue target of NT$52.8 billion for 2025, a slight increase from the NT$52.5 billion achieved last year. With the full opening of Garden City, annual revenue is expected to reach NT$10 billion.
As SOGO navigates this transition, Huang remains cautiously optimistic about regaining pre-pandemic retail stability. The developments at Garden City could position it as a new year-end hotspot, signaling a promising future for Taipei's retail landscape.
