TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Metro (台北捷運) announced on Wednesday (Jan. 15) that it is upgrading the gates at all 117 stations, with completion expected by the end of October 2025. This initiative will introduce contactless payment options through credit cards and linked services such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. The new gates will also support QR code payments via LINE Pay, Easy Wallet (悠遊付), iPASS MONEY, and icash Pay.
Taipei Metro stated that these enhancements will increase payment flexibility, reduce the time spent purchasing tickets, and minimize cash transactions. The metro stressed that offering diverse payment services will enhance convenience for international travelers, boosting Taipei Metro's global competitiveness. Since June 2023, the metro has installed 1,396 electronic main modules and multi-payment add-on modules across its network.
The upgraded equipment will feature contactless credit card and QR code scanning capabilities, with the system set to be fully operational by late October 2025. The Circular Line (環狀線) will also receive these updates, aligning its launch with other lines.
