NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced Monday (Dec. 16) that 27,000 participants have registered for the 2025 World Masters Games (雙北世界壯年運動會), with 3,000 spots still available. Hou made this announcement at the inaugural press event of the Danhai LRT's (淡海輕軌) Strong Train (壯寶列車), promoting the games set for May 17-30, 2025.
Hou revealed his participation in the table tennis event and highlighted that the games will feature 35 sports, including basketball, woodball, and croquet. To boost awareness, two Strong Trains began operating on the Taoyuan Airport MRT (桃園機場捷運) on Dec. 6, with more trains launching on the Circular Line (環狀線) and Bannan Line (板南線).
The Strong Train's exterior showcases vibrant imagery, and Hou urged residents to register by February, emphasizing the health benefits and joy of sports. New Taipei's Sports Department (新北市政府體育局) noted that passengers traveling on the light rail to Hongshulin Station (紅樹林站) and Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf Station (漁人碼頭站) could receive limited-edition Strong-themed blessing cards.
Participants who upload photos to the New Taipei Sports Hub (新北運動聚點) Facebook page and leave a comment could win convenience store vouchers. Organizers and officials continue encouraging public engagement and participation as the games approach.
