TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Health and Welfare Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) emphasized the crucial role of health promotion campaigns on Wednesday (Jan. 15), stating these initiatives significantly affect public well-being. Legislators have begun deliberations on the 2025 central government budget, with reports suggesting the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) intends to slash media publicity funds across various ministries.
Chiu highlighted that the ministry's campaigns are professionally grounded in public health, citing the reduction of the age for free adult health checkups to 30 as a vital measure. He stressed the importance of media in disseminating information about cancer screenings, which aids in promoting public health.
Chiu also confirmed on Wednesday (Jan. 15) that the Executive Yuan has approved the necessary funds regarding Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) proposal last year that the National Health Insurance point value will be supplemented through the public budget to reach NT$0.9 per point.
The Executive Yuan's approval will ensure medical institutions can receive the adjusted NT$0.9 per point before the Lunar New Year. He expressed a desire for a prosperous holiday season for all, emphasizing the ongoing challenges in managing infectious and chronic diseases and the need for enhanced efforts to safeguard public health.
