TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Health Minister Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) said Wednesday (Jan. 15) that the search for a successor for Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (TFDA, 食藥署) head is ongoing, with Lin Chin-fu (林金富), the deputy director-general, stepping in as interim leader.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, 衛福部) will see a leadership change as Juang Shin-hun (莊聲宏), the current TFDA head, retires on Thursday (Jan. 16). Juang, who served since July 1 last year, expressed his plans to return to China Medical University (中國醫藥大學) after his tenure ends. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Miami.
During a media interview at the Legislative Yuan's Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee, Chiu assured that finding the right candidate for heading the TFDA will not be delayed. Chiu praised Juang for his dedication, noting that he worked as if "one day was three days" during his short term.
Despite the opposition party's significant budget cuts, Chiu emphasized that the ministry's health promotion efforts remain committed to public health. He highlighted the importance of early screening and treatment for chronic diseases among people in their 30s and 40s.
