TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — A top Taichung official announced on Tuesday (Jan. 14) that the city government continues to engage with Nvidia regarding potential investment opportunities. During a visit to the U.S. last July, officials presented Nvidia with a comprehensive briefing about Taichung's investment environment and resources, aiming to attract the tech giant.
The selection of Nvidia's Taiwan headquarters has sparked significant interest, with Taichung actively vying for the investment. Taichung Deputy Mayor Cheng Chao-hsin (鄭照新) emphasized that international tech companies like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) and Micron Technology have already chosen Taichung, highlighting the city's appeal. He stated that Taichung is home to numerous core AI industry facilities.
Cheng pointed out that Taichung's population of 7 million provides a rich pool of research and development talent. He also described Taichung as Taiwan's most livable city, offering competitive living conditions and educational opportunities for children, which makes it an ideal choice for Nvidia.
Tunghai University (東海大學) has further sweetened the deal by offering Nvidia a choice of three campus plots for an annual rent of NT$11, aiming to foster collaboration. With over 15 years of partnership with Nvidia, the university provides more than 3 hectares of land near key locations like the Central Taiwan Science Park (中部科學園區) and Taichung Industrial Park (台中工業區), boasting excellent geography and transportation access.
