TAIPEI (TVBS News) — NVIDIA (輝達) has expressed interest in establishing an overseas headquarters in Taiwan, prompting the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) caucus in New Taipei City Council to urge the city government to actively pursue the opportunity, the Central News Agency (CNA, 中央社) reported on Tuesday (Dec. 24).
Cheng Hsiao-jung (盛筱蓉), director of New Taipei City's Economic Development Department (經發局), told CNA that the city government had offered several plots of land exceeding 3 hectares for NVIDIA's consideration, aiming to attract the company to New Taipei.
Secretary-General Chen Wei-chieh (陳偉杰) noted that while NVIDIA prefers Taipei City, New Taipei offers superior site conditions and transportation options. Chen urged New Taipei City officials to enhance their engagement with NVIDIA, suggesting that a deputy mayor should lead cross-departmental communication and establish a task force to facilitate investment.
Deputy Secretary-Generals Tsai Shu-chun (蔡淑君) and Chiang I-chen (江怡臻) highlighted the concentration of key AI industry players in New Taipei, which would benefit NVIDIA if the headquarters were located there.
Cheng further stated that the city has provided large plots in Xindian (新店) and Linkou (林口), along with incentives for NVIDIA's evaluation. She emphasized the city's proactive measures, including site inspections with NVIDIA representatives and Mayor Hou Yu-ih's (侯友宜) personal participation in video conferences to maintain ongoing communication with the company.
As negotiations continue, the New Taipei City government remains committed to securing NVIDIA's investment, which could bolster the region's position as a hub for AI innovation.
