TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nvidia plans to establish its Asian headquarters in Taipei, sparking significant interest as announced by the Minister of National Development Council (NDC, 國發會) in Silicon Valley on Tuesday (Jan. 14), Taiwan time. Nvidia intends to establish its headquarters in Taiwan, with various cities actively vying for the opportunity. It expects to accommodate 2,500 personnel.

NDC unveiled its second overseas startup base in Silicon Valley, with Minister Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) attending the ceremony. Liu emphasized the new base's role in addressing Taiwan's talent needs. Before the ceremony, Liu revealed that Nvidia will establish an R&D center in Kaohsiung, while AMD has chosen Shalun (沙崙) in Tainan for its R&D center.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) stated at the U.S. Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that the company's current office space is too small, and it is searching for suitable premises. Huang might announce further details at COMPUTEX in Taipei. Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) disclosed that Nvidia's site selection criteria include at least 3 hectares of land, low-density buildings, and a high building coverage ratio. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (經濟部) will ensure a stable water and electricity supply.
