TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Bank (中央銀行) will launch a crisp bill exchange service from Jan. 20 to 24, just in time for the Lunar New Year. This service will be available at 456 locations across Taiwan, including major banks, branch offices, and post offices, ensuring everyone can prepare for the festive season with fresh currency.
In a collaborative effort, the Central Bank has partnered with eight financial institutions, including Taiwan Bank (臺灣銀行) and Chunghwa Post (中華郵政), to establish these exchange points. During that period, 373 bank branches and 24 urban post offices will dedicate special counters to facilitate swift exchanges. In rural areas, 59 post offices will accommodate exchanges at regular service stations, ensuring accessibility for all.
Individuals can exchange up to 100 NT$100 bills, with other denominations available based on supply. However, due to cash flow and inventory limits, each location will have daily caps on the distribution of new bills. The Central Bank recommends visiting multiple exchange points if necessary and encourages using well-preserved old bills or digital transfers as eco-friendly alternatives to traditional red envelopes.
For those opting for digital red envelopes, the Central Bank advises reaching out to financial institutions for details on mobile number transfer services. This initiative not only offers convenience but also promotes sustainability during the festive celebrations.
