TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taoyuan's Department of Transportation (桃園市政府交通局) announced Friday (Jan. 10) a special fare surcharge for taxis during the Lunar New Year holiday. From Jan. 24 to Feb. 2, passengers will pay an additional NT$50 per ride, while taxis at Taoyuan International Airport (桃園國際機場) will charge an extra NT$100.
Currently, taxi fares in Taoyuan start at NT$90 for the first 1,250 meters, with an additional NT$5 for every subsequent 200 meters. The department emphasized that passengers will pay the regular fare if a ride begins before the surcharge period, even if it ends during the surcharge period.
The department allows airport taxis to add a 15% service fee for waiting. They urged passengers to be mindful of fare details and report any overcharging or refusal of service. Passengers should note the taxi's license plate, time, location, or receipt details and report any issues to the department or the police.
Violations, once verified, will result in fines ranging from NT$9,000 to NT$90,000 under the Highway Act (公路法) or Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act (道路交通管理處罰條例). With the holiday season approaching, the department's proactive measures aim to ensure transparent and fair taxi services for all passengers. Travelers should remain vigilant and report any discrepancies to uphold service standards.
