TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Legislative Yuan (立法院) approved the establishment of the "National Sports Administration" (全民運動署) on Tuesday (Jan. 7) to promote the development of sports for all ages and communities. The Judiciary and Organic Laws Committee (司法及法制委員會) and the Education and Culture Committee (教育及文化委員會) reviewed the draft proposed by the Executive Yuan (行政院) and legislators on Nov. 28. After party negotiations, they reached a consensus on the legislation, aiming to enhance public engagement in sports through this initiative.

The new law outlines nine key responsibilities for the "National Sports Administration," including planning, promoting, and implementing national sports policies. It also emphasizes coordinating marine, aquatic, and mountain sports. More importantly, the agency will focus on emerging, extreme, and traditional folk sports, providing guidance and incentives for these activities. It will also promote community sports clubs and organizations to foster local participation.

The legislation specifies the appointment of one director for the "National Sports Administration," with the potential to hire someone with university president qualifications and one deputy director. This structured leadership aims to ensure effective management and execution of its responsibilities, according to officials.
