TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Executive Yuan (行政院) announced on Monday (Jan. 6) that it will continue providing support services to 55,000 elderly individuals living alone, focusing on those over 75 years old. These services include communal meals, meal delivery, and home medical care. Taiwan has prioritized support for its elderly population as it transitions into a super-aged society in 2025. President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has emphasized the importance of proactively understanding how older people use social services, especially those living alone.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) has shown his commitment to this issue by interacting with senior citizens during public events and expressing gratitude for the contributions of community centers. The Executive Yuan has tasked the Ministry of Health and Welfare (衛福部) with developing an integrated service system. This system will combine community centers to create a regional protection network, prioritizing the investigation of potential individuals over 75 years old.
Through the social welfare system, the government will continue to track and provide integrated services, including communal dining, health care, and health promotion services, with referrals to long-term care services as needed.
