TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) returned home on Monday (Dec. 30) afternoon after his wife, Peggy Chen(陳佩琪), posted an additional NT$40 million bail. Ko, smiled silently as he swiftly entered his residence without responding to media questions.
Ko is facing charges related to the Core Pacific City (京華城) project and political donation embezzlement. The High Court had revoked Ko's initial NT$30 million bail set last Friday, mandating a total of NT$70 million. Chen urgently gathered the funds and rushed to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office to complete the bail process.
Upon arriving home, Ko remained silent when asked if he felt humiliated by wearing an electronic ankle monitor or if he believed his case was politically motivated. Supporters gathered outside Ko's residence, holding signs to encourage him.
Meanwhile, a Monday poll released by My Formosa (美麗華電子報) revealed Ko's overall trust rating has plummeted to a historic low of 19.9%. About 3.7% of respondents "strongly trust" him, while 16.2% "somewhat trust" him, marking a 3.6 percentage point drop since his detention in September. The survey, conducted from Dec. 24-26 by Beacon Marketing Research Company (畢肯市場研究公司), collected 1,074 responses from people over 20 years old nationwide.
