TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Prosecutor's Office (台北地院) on Friday (Dec. 27) ordered Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), chairman of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨), to post bail of NT$30 million in connection with the Core Pacific City and political donations cases. Authorities have also issued restrictions on his residence and travel as part of the legal proceedings.
Prosecutors indicted Ko and 10 others on corruption charges, transferring five detained defendants to the Taipei District Court for further investigation. Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌), a TPP legislator, remarked on the hefty bail, stating that the party requires time to gather the funds. He noted that "Ko Wen-je is not Cheng Wen-tsan"— a reference to former Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦), who quickly posted his NT$28 million bail in a previous corruption case.
Ko and his co-defendants remain in a holding room, awaiting the collection of bail funds. The process will continue once a Bank of Taiwan official arrives to count the money later in the morning. Observers closely monitor the developments, as the outcome could impact Ko's political career and the TPP's future.
