TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) on Thursday (Dec. 26) criticized President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) government for allegedly persecuting TPP Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) and the party over the past four months. During an afternoon international press conference, Lin Funan (林富男), head of the TPP response team, claimed the actions aimed to defeat political opponents and urged the government to cease such persecution.
Lin emphasized that Ko represents 3.69 million Taiwanese citizens, suggesting that political persecution against him equates to undermining their will. He described it as one of Taiwan's darkest democratic days and questioned the motives behind the allegations. Lin insisted Ko was innocent, asserting that "Ko Wen-Je would not take any money." He stressed the importance of maintaining judicial fairness and justice in Taiwan, and urged Taiwanese citizens to unite in defending judicial integrity and democratic values, stating that smearing Ko is unacceptable.
Lin called on the Lai government to stop interfering in the judiciary and warned against political manipulation. He remarked that if Taiwan frequently allows political intrusion into the judiciary, even those like Ko, known for their integrity, could be unjustly targeted.
