TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chen Pei-chi (陳佩琪), the wife of former Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), gathered with supporters at Liberty Square (自由廣場) in Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂) on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) to form the words "Peaceful Return Home, Free KP" (平安回家, Free KP). The event, organized by Clark Lin (林昭印), the deputy director of the party's organization department, aimed to show solidarity as Ko faces impending charges related to the Core Pacific City case and political donation suspicions.
Chen, who attended the event upon invitation, expressed her heartfelt wishes during the gathering. "It's Christmas Eve, and I wish you all peace and prosperity in your family and that the whole family can be together!" she said, emphasizing the importance of family unity. With a trembling voice, she conveyed her hope for Ko's safe return to lead the party and celebrate Christmas and the Lunar New Year with her. She added, that the "home" word card is the only one she held up, underscoring her focus on family.
In a symbolic gesture, Chen placed gifts beside a Christmas tree, wishing for Ko's return to personally receive them. Lin, sharing the event's sentiments on Facebook, noted that Chen's sole wish was for Ko to return home safely. He thanked supporters for their encouragement and wished everyone a Merry Christmas. The event highlighted the personal and political challenges faced by Ko and his family. Observers await further developments as the Taipei District Prosecutors Office is expected to indict Ko this week.
