TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) reported on Wednesday (Dec. 25) that a Chinese military aircraft breached Taiwan's eastern airspace between Dec. 24 at 6 a.m. and Dec. 25 at 6 a.m. The incident marks the latest in a series of maneuvers by Chinese forces in the region.
The MND detected three Chinese aircraft, with one entering the eastern airspace and six naval vessels operating around the Taiwan Strait. The ministry emphasized that the military remains vigilant in monitoring and responding to these activities.
On Dec. 24 at 8:22 a.m., a Chinese balloon also entered the airspace 64 nautical miles northwest of Keelung at an altitude of 22,000 feet. The balloon disappeared by 10:25 a.m. The military employed aircraft, ships, and land-based missile systems to closely track the balloon and aircraft movements.
The MND stressed the importance of maintaining a robust surveillance posture to address Chinese military activities. As tensions persist, the ministry assured that it will continue to monitor and respond to any developments to safeguard Taiwan's security.
