TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Formosa Chang (鬍鬚張) has increased prices on several popular menu items starting Wednesday (Dec. 25), citing rising costs of raw materials and labor. The price hike resulted in an average increase of 5.8%.

The braised pork rice bento now costs NT$85, up from NT$80, while the Tangshan pork chop bento rises to NT$125 by NT$6. The corn soup also increases by NT$4, and the tofu dish increases by NT$2. The Tangshan pork chop as a single item costs NT$95. Other products maintain their original prices.

Formosa Chang announced the adjustments in a press release, stating, "Considering overall operational strategies and to maintain quality service and food, while caring for each employee, we have decided to adjust prices after careful evaluation."

The company previously raised prices in February 2024, affecting two bento options. This latest round affects five items, reflecting ongoing inflationary pressures and the dual challenges of rising material and labor costs. Formosa Chang's decision underscores the increasing financial strain on the food industry, where even traditional street food like braised pork rice is no longer immune to price hikes.
