TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Santa Claus is making his global journey, with his sleigh already flying over Australia, according to Flightradar24 on Tuesday (Dec. 24) evening. The sleigh, traveling at a ground speed of 3,326 kilometers per hour at an altitude of 18,288 meters soon passed over Taiwan.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has tracked Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve since 1955. This tradition started when a printing error in a department store ad led a child to call a Colorado military command center, hoping to speak with Santa.
Air Force Col. Harry Shoup answered the call, assuring the child that he was indeed Santa Claus, thus beginning NORAD's holiday custom. Over 70,000 users have monitored Santa's route via Flightradar24. In most countries, Santa typically arrives between 9 p.m. and midnight to deliver Christmas presents. This year, Google has also launched a service to track Santa's sleigh, featuring interactive games.
As the world eagerly watches Santa's progress, the tradition continues to captivate both children and adults. The anticipation builds as Taiwan awaits Santa's visit, keeping the spirit of Christmas alive.
