TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The head of theMinistry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) highlighted on Monday (Dec. 23) the necessity for central government funding to support infrastructure projects like railway elevation and metro construction. These projects demand substantial financial backing to ensure timely completion, MOTC Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) added.

The Legislative Yuan passed amendments to the "Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures" last Friday. This revision will adjust the allocation of tax revenues among counties and cities, potentially impacting the funding available for transportation projects. Chen noted the lengthy timelines required for such developments, warning that insufficient budgets could delay completion.

Chen emphasized that reduced budgets, Taiwan's limited construction capacity, and rising raw material costs might lead to project delays. He stated that the government needs to further discuss whether to propose countermeasures to address these challenges. As Taiwan navigates these fiscal adjustments, the government faces the task of balancing resource allocation with the pressing need for infrastructure development.
