TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Taiwan Science Park Administration (中科管理局) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 18) that its Shuinan Reclaimed Water Project (水湳再生水計畫) began supplying water in October, initially providing 10,000 tons daily. AUO Corporation (友達光電), Air Liquide Far Eastern (亞東氣體), and Lien Fung Precision Technology Development Co. (聯豐精密) are the primary recipients of this supply, the park administration said.
By recycling effluent from public sewage treatment plants, the project offers a stable industrial water source, saving 110,000 kWh annually and reducing carbon emissions by 54 metric tons. Hsu Mao-hsin (許茂新), director of the administration, stated that the project, developed over several years, primarily serves the Central Taiwan Science Park. AUO uses 9,400 tons daily, while Air Liquide Far Eastern and Lien Fung each consume 300 tons.
The administration invested NT$346 million in the science park to build a reclaimed water reservoir, a pipeline pressurization system, and high-performance HDPE pipes, ensuring a stable water supply. Wu Ching-hung (吳慶鴻), AUO's associate manager, highlighted that the project demonstrates corporate social responsibility and enhances business resilience. Despite a 20% to 30% increase in water costs, reclaimed water now accounts for one-third of AUO's usage at the park.
Hsu expressed gratitude to companies like AUO for contracting to use reclaimed water. He emphasized future collaboration with the Fukuda and Wuri Water Recycling Centers to support the second phase expansion of the Central Taiwan Science Park, promoting sustainable development.
