TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Shanghai Mayor Hua Yuan (華源) hosted an appreciation banquet on Tuesday (Dec. 17) and reiterated the sentiment of "cross-strait family ties" while encouraging Taiwanese businesses to continue investing in Shanghai.
The Taipei-Shanghai City Forum (台北上海城市論壇) took place at the Regent Taipei (晶華酒店), with the Shanghai delegation treating city officials and Kuomintang (國民黨) and Taiwan People's Party (民眾黨) councilors to lunch at the Grand Hyatt Taipei (君悅酒店).
Hua expressed his impression of the similarities between Taipei and Shanghai, fostering a sense of familiarity. He emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and promoted tourism from Shanghai to Taiwan. Hua also highlighted China's long-standing commitment to cross-strait peace and integration, noting that the forum has consistently run for over a decade, resulting in 47 memorandums of cooperation.
Hua underscored the role of Taiwanese businesses as a crucial bridge between Taipei and Shanghai, assuring them of a top-notch business environment in Shanghai. Deputy Taipei Mayor Lin Yi-hua (林奕華) noted that this forum marks the first in-person event in Taipei since the pandemic, allowing both sides to exchange urban governance experiences through municipal visits and discussions.
