TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Government (台北市政府) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 4) that the 2024 Taipei-Shanghai Twin-City Forum (雙城論壇) will take place on Dec. 17. Both cities plan to sign memorandums on smart medical cooperation and red panda conservation.
The forum, themed "Smart Governance for a Sustainable Future" (智慧治理 永續未來), will see a Shanghai delegation, led by Vice Mayor Hua Yuan (華源). This year marks Mayor Chiang Wan-an's (蔣萬安) first time hosting the forum in Taipei since he attended last year's event in Shanghai.
The city government expressed hopes to continue the positive interaction between the two cities, aiming to enhance the welfare of their citizens and promote the goal of "both our cities thrive, cross-strait relationships will also thrive" (雙城好、兩岸好).
An informed source revealed that the Taipei and Shanghai governments have carefully coordinated the forum's theme and timing, with past forums sometimes delayed until July or August. They have submitted the confirmed list of Chinese attendees to the Mainland Affairs Council (陸委會).
Since 2010, Taipei and Shanghai have alternated hosting the annual forum, resulting in 14 consecutive events and 45 cooperation memorandums. This year marks the 15th edition, underscoring the ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration and dialogue between the two cities.
