TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's job market is increasingly opening its doors to foreign professionals. A local job bank reported Tuesday (Dec. 3) that 40% of recruiting companies welcomed foreign talent in the third quarter, offering an average of 265,000 job opportunities monthly, marking a 10% year-over-year increase.
In a move to attract more talent, the Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) in August removed the cap on the number of overseas Chinese and foreign graduates eligible to work in Taiwan. Companies can now hire these graduates based on a points system without adhering to the minimum salary requirement of NT$47,971. The hospitality, wholesale, and electronics industries led in welcoming foreign talent, offering 77,000, 41,000, and 27,000 job opportunities, respectively.
According to 104 Job Bank's data,15,000 foreign professionals sought employment through its platform in the third quarter, a 9% increase from the previous year. Nearly 60% of these job seekers were under 30, and over 80% held a university degree or higher. Malaysian professionals made up 23% of these job seekers, followed by Vietnamese at 14% and Indonesians at 13%, indicating a trend toward younger, educated professionals becoming a new workforce asset.
Foreign applicants mainly sought positions in customer service, trade (18%), marketing, project management (11%), and research and development (9%). Chen Sung-jung (陳嵩榮), a senior vice president at 104 Job Bank, noted that foreign job seekers who demonstrate Chinese language proficiency or provide certification can receive 1.4 times more interview invitations.
