TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Controversy has erupted over Minister of Labor Hung Sun-han's (洪申翰) recent decision to schedule weekend meetings for ministry staff. He announced on Thursday (Nov. 27) evening that he would postpone his Monday briefing, allowing him more time to understand departmental operations. Hung stated that he had coordinated with Su Ching-chuan (蘇清泉), the Legislative Yuan's Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee (立院衛環委員會) convener.

Hung, who assumed office on Monday, pledged to transform the ministry into a model of workplace friendliness. However, reports surfaced that he required staff to work over the weekend, sparking discontent among employees. The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) clarified that Hung's busy first week, focused on reopening a workplace bullying investigation and establishing a grievance mechanism, left little time for briefings.

Hung emphasized that he did not mandate full weekend shifts for all departments. Instead, he arranged for each unit to present for 1.5 hours, allowing staff to leave afterward. He assured that he would review scheduling to minimize unnecessary burdens on colleagues.
