TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Government announced Tuesday (Nov. 26) that it will award WeiChuan Dragons (味全龍) players NT$700,000 each and coaches NT$300,000 to express gratitude and encouragement after their outstanding performance. The city recognized Taiwan's historic first gold medal win at the WBSC Premier 12, marking a significant achievement in international baseball.
Officials emphasized the efforts of the Chinese Taipei (中華隊) team, including coaches, players, and countless behind-the-scenes heroes, in securing this victory. To acknowledge these contributions, Taipei will also award NT$100,000 each to two WeiChuan Dragons staff members who served as protectors and trainers for the national team. The city praised the team's outstanding international performance, noting it has reignited citizens' passion for baseball and advanced Taipei's vision of becoming a sports capital.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) previously stated that recipients must have been registered Taipei residents for at least a year to qualify for the bonuses. However, no team members met this criterion. As a result, the city adjusted its policy to accommodate the WeiChuan Dragons, whose home base is in Taipei, ensuring the team receives the deserved recognition.
