TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation (馬英九基金會) criticized unnamed officials on Tuesday (Nov. 26) for leaking personal data of a visiting Chinese delegation. The group, arriving Nov. 27, includes 40 students and faculty from seven Chinese universities, featuring Olympic gold medalists Ma Long (馬龍) and Yang Qian (楊倩).
The Liberty Times (自由時報) reported that several delegation members are Chinese Communist Party (CCP, 中國共產黨) members, suggesting a political agenda. In response to media reports, Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑), executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, condemned the officials for violating the Personal Data Protection Act (個人資料保護法) by disclosing the group's information to the media. He described this action as a "disgrace to Taiwan" and accused the officials of "self-deprecation."
Moreover, Hsiao explained that the political systems of China and Taiwan are different, and it is not surprising to be a CCP member. Hsiao also criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨), questioning its commitment to freedom and democracy. He sarcastically remarked that the party's fear of cross-strait exchanges contradicts its proclaimed values. He emphasized the significance of cultural and sports exchanges, noting Taiwan's recent victory in the WBSC Premier 12 baseball championship and the opportunity for Chinese athletes to experience baseball in Taiwan.
