TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF, 中華民國空軍) confirmed Monday (Nov. 25) that it has enough flares to accompany Taiwan's national baseball team as they return home. Taiwan's team made history by defeating Japan 4-0 in the WBSC Premier 12, capturing their first world-class baseball championship, and ending Japan's 27-game international winning streak.
The Air Force plans to deploy F-16V jets to escort the team and release flares in celebration. Some media outlets reported concerns about flare shortages due to increased operational costs from frequent responses to Chinese military activities.
However, the Air Force Command Headquarters (空軍司令部) reassured the public, stating that the flare stockpile is sufficient and replenished annually. Moreover, the Air Force added that the mission to welcome these national heroes will use minimal flares, not affecting Taiwan's combat training tasks.
The Air Force emphasized that flares are essential for training across various aircraft types and confirmed that all preparations to welcome the national heroes were complete. As Taiwan celebrates this unprecedented victory, the Air Force's commitment ensures a fitting tribute to the champions.
