TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Egg Processing Association (台灣精緻洗選蛋品協會) announced Thursday (Nov. 21) that the proportion of washed eggs in Taiwan has surpassed 30%. The association aims to increase the market share to about 60% within two years, according to Wu Qing-de (吳清德), chairman of the association.
Wu said the association, which includes major companies such as Morn Sun (茂生農經), DaChan Food (大成), and Charoen Pokphand Enterprise (卜蜂), uses specialized washing equipment from Japan and Europe to ensure eggs are clean and safe.
He emphasized the fluctuating supply and demand for eggs in Taiwan, noting occasional shortages or surpluses, and expressed the association's hope to foster collaboration among industry, government, and academia to promote the comprehensive use of washed eggs and enhance industry value.
Wu highlighted the traceability codes printed on washed eggshells. These codes enable consumers to verify their origin on the government's traceability platform, increasing production transparency and boosting consumer confidence.
