TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Egg Merchants Association (台北市蛋商公會) announced on Tuesday (Nov. 19) that egg prices will remain unchanged this week as cooler weather and rising vegetable prices have increased demand, prompting the decision. Despite an oversupply of eggs, domestic prices have risen, drawing criticism from the Consumers' Foundation, Chinese Taipei (消基會), which claims a lack of oversight in pricing.

Following two price hikes, the farm price for eggs stands at NT$26.5 per catty, with a wholesale price of NT$36 per catty. The Ministry of Agriculture's "Egg Production and Marketing Information" platform reports a daily production of 125,500 boxes, surpassing the daily demand of 120,000 boxes.

Lin Tien-lai (林天來), chairman of the Taipei City Egg Merchants Association, stated that the association's pricing reflects production and sales conditions without monopolistic collusion. Lin addressed the Consumers' Foundation's concerns, clarifying that the association's quoted prices serve as reference prices, reflecting the market situation.

He emphasized that the pricing targets traditional egg farms and operates under a consignment system.
