TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) reported on Friday (Nov. 1) that Typhoon Kong-rey has inflicted an estimated NT$9.51 million in damages to agricultural products and private facilities.

Kaohsiung bore the brunt of the storm, accounting for NT$2.81 million, or 30% of the total losses, making it the hardest-hit area.

Yunlin and Nantou were followed by damages of NT$2 million and NT$1.99 million, respectively, each representing 21% of the total losses. Tainan and Chiayi County experienced losses of NT$970,000 and NT$890,000, accounting for 10% and 9% of the total damages, respectively.

The primary crop affected was edible corn, which was damaged on 56 hectares and at a damage degree of 27%. This resulted in an unharvested area of 15 hectares and a financial loss of NT$2.15 million. Other impacted crops included edible tomatoes, muskmelons, persimmons, and rice.

Agricultural facilities suffered an estimated loss of NT$380,000, mainly due to damage to tunnel-type facilities and plastic-covered greenhouses.
