TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Tuesday (Nov. 19) dismissed the notion of skepticism toward the U.S. as an unfounded topic, reiterating that such discussions should not occur. During a legislative session, Cho emphasized that nations with shared values should trust each other, underscoring the importance of strengthening Taiwan-U.S. relations.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Lai Jui-lung (賴瑞隆) noted that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Marco Rubio for Secretary of State underscores the importance of Taiwan's semiconductor and trade achievements.
Cho pointed out the recent announcements of U.S. government appointments, many of whom show concern for Taiwan and share international perspectives, reflecting the crucial nature of Taiwan-U.S. cooperation. In response to China's ambitions, Cho remarked that leadership should evolve naturally and forceful actions won't gain global recognition. He affirmed Taiwan's confidence in its pivotal role in the Indo-Pacific and its readiness to shoulder international responsibilities.
Regarding cross-strait relations, Cho expressed support for ongoing communication between Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (海峽交流基金會) and China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (海峽兩岸關係協會). He voiced high expectations for Wu Feng-shan (吳豐山), SEF chairman, reiterated Taiwan's commitment to asserting sovereignty and seeking equal treatment internationally.
